Charter Board Partners working with 10 local schools to support good governance

As SchoolSmartKC (SSKC) continues its effort to nurture excellence in public schools, it is working with nationally-recognized Charter Board Partners to help recruit, train and sustain effective charter school boards.

Working together, SSKC and Charter Board Partners (CBP) have partnered with 10 local schools to be the first participants in the CBP programming. They include:

  • Académie Lafayette
  • Citizens of the World Kansas City
  • Crossroads Charter Schools
  • Ewing Marion Kauffman Schools
  • Frontier Schools
  • Gordon Parks Elementary
  • Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools
  • Kansas City Neighborhood Academy
  • Scuola Vita Nuova
  • University Academy

CBP will work with existing board members at each of these schools to bolster and build on their skills as part of their signature Charter School Governance Academy, which involves a day-long training session to educate board members about effective charter school governance.

Working with each board, CBP has also developed a customized training program that includes individual coaching to provide help in areas identified by the Boards as particularly valuable.

Additionally, as part of this partnership, CBP will work with Kansas City community leaders to build a pool of high-caliber charter school board candidates, train them in effective governance practices, and strategically match these candidates to fill the recruiting needs of participating charter schools.

If you have an interest in becoming a charter school board candidate, please contact Aquila Leon-Soon at CBP.
